Quicke’s Traditional Mature Cheddar is a white cheddar cheese made in England. As you can see, it has a solid body with a few cracks. Its firmness allows it to slice well without completely crumbling apart. Thinner pieces will crumble, however, but that is typical with cheddar.
What is atypical about the Quicke’s Traditional Mature Cheddar is its flavor. The flavor of this cheese is absolutely sublime. There are so many notes and dimensions that work together to blow your taste buds away.
When you bite into it, notes of creamy butter are the first thing you notice. Then comes this this nuttiness that slowly rises up from the smooth buttery taste, but it doesn’t end there. That nutty-buttery flavor then transforms into something most closely resembling a truffle flavor.
Every bite is this exquisite flavor journey. The first bite, with all its complexities and nuances, stunned me. My eyes widened. This is why cheese tasting is rewarding. Cheese has so much flavor potential and the Quicke’s Traditional Mature Cheddar exemplifies that.
It needs nothing else to draw its flavor out. Certain jams might do well with it–strong apples do not because the flavor overpowers the cheddar. This cheese, to be fully appreciated, needs to be eaten alone. Anything else buries its nuances.
As you can probably guess from my glowing review, I consider Quicke’s Traditional Mature Cheddar to be an absolutely sublime cheddar–an absolutely sublime cheese. Words do not its complex flavor enough justice. I cannot recommend it enough.
