I’m a frequent Adagio tea shopper and ever since learning about their fandom blends I’ve been intrigued with making my own teas for my book characters. I finally got around to doing it and made the main six characters of The Adventures of the Trinity and the One book series (which I wrote if you don’t already know). So this is a review of my book series’ Adagio fandom blends tea set and the process of making it!

The Process

The process to actually make these tea blends on Adagio was really easy. I filled out this form. In it, I was able to choose a blend of up to three teas from their offerings and then chose to add an ‘accent’ or not (think flowers, ginger, fruit pieces, etc.). Then I made artwork to put on the tins and boom! The artwork creation was more time consuming than figuring out the tea blends themselves as for Balon, Farrco, and Dien, I had to make new artwork for them (which was something I needed to do anyway).

After making a blend for each character, I made the group fandom (there’s a quiz to join).

There were a few minor hitches in the process, but overall, it was super fluid! If anyone is thinking of it for their content, go for it. It’s fun.

The Packaging

If you order six ‘samples’ of the same fandom, so six tins, they’ll pack it in a nice box that has the art of all six tins as the cover (pictured at the top of the post). It’s a nice touch. The tins themselves are awesome, although, the tea tends to ooze out since they are so tightly packed (which is great in its own way).

But…finally…the question of most importance: what were the tea blends for each character and how did they TASTE? I’m going to go through them in order of creation and give my thoughts as usual!

King Fla’neiel – Decaf Earl Grey, Decaf Spice

King’s blend is a strong bodied decaf tea—decaf earl grey and decaf spice. I thought King would be into decaf since he doesn’t need the caffeine as he has far too much excitement in his life. The spice really comes through it. It feels classic, simple, and strong. Super solid tea. King would like this, if he really liked tea…

Cyclone – Mambo, Tiger Eye, Red Peppercorn

Cyclone is a strong willed character with a spicy, charming personality. I went with luscious chocolate notes and added red peppercorn as the spice hit. Definitely a strong tea, not much of a spice hit, though. I still liked it for its body and smooth nature.

Spellbinder – Citron Green, White Tangerine, and Orange Peels

Spellbinder…Spellbinder was going to be the citrus mix of them all. And this is definitely a citrus mix. Very fruity smell, a little bitter at first, then the quaint citrus comes. It is what it is and it’s good!

Farrco – Lemon Grass, Green Rooibos, Ginger

Farrco’s tea is the most herbal and chill of them. Lemon grass, rooibos, and ginger. It seemed to fit his stoic personality. I really like lemon grass and ginger in general so I was excited for this one. It has a nice streamlined flavor, but it’s not as strong as I’d like with regards to ginger. I wish there was a bigger hit, but maybe brewing it longer would bring out the ginger. Still nice, though.

Balon Zfnoctewoohi – Ceylon Sonata, White Peony, Cranberries

This is a tricky one. Balon had to be 50 black and 50 white because…that’s Balon Zfnoctewoohi. The accent on top of that mixture was tricky. Went with cranberries since she’s a…sharp person. I didn’t know what to expect with this blend at all. Whatever I expected was not what I tasted: The end result of this strange concoction is a tea that really reminds me of English Breakfast or Constant Comment. Seriously! It was a memory trip to tea I had in like breakfast diners. It has a strong smell too. Very robust tea.

Dien – Peach Oolong, Apricot Green, Cocoa Nibs

And the finale: Dien! For Dien, I chose stone fruits. Green, oolong…apricot…peach…it just worked for Dien. The cocoa nibs I hoped would give it a nice chocolatey sophisticated hit (also ‘dark’), but it didn’t come through that much. Still, with just the fruity notes, it was very tasty.

Conclusion

Overall, this was such an awesome experience. I hope to add more Adagio tea blends for other characters. It was so much fun thinking of the combinations and the results of that were really tasty. I’m kinda surprised I nailed it so well, since sometimes I have very poor taste. But I’m not complaining! It also forced me to make ‘cartoon’ artwork of Farrco, Balon, and Dien to use on the tins. So…very productive and cool.
