This is the FIRST bread product I have ever reviewed on Selective Elective. We don’t usually eat much bread goods…but I have a soft spot for English Muffins (Thomas brand) for breakfast occasionally. I picked Dave’s Killer Bread Classic English Muffins up as part of an Imperfect Foods box and we promptly ate the entire box in two days for breakfast.
These Killer Classic English Muffins are definitely denser than normal english muffins. They have a sourdough like smell. Tangy and bitter. They tasted bitter at points, but it wasn’t a turnoff. They were good. They definitely feel more filling than regular English Muffins—and that’s probably the point. They are full of ‘super grains’. With jelly, they tasted good.
Interestingly, they are pre-cut, which I think was more of a detriment than a positive. Yes, pre-cut is easier, but it sort of…eliminates the experience of beholding the craters after peeling apart an intact English Muffin. They toasted well.
Overall, I did enjoy Dave’s Killer Classic English Muffins. They are more filling than their normal counterparts and had a slightly different flavor profile, but not that much different. It’s really a toss up between these and regular english muffins for me. I would eat them for different reasons and at different times (needing something more fulfilling versus something texturally classic). So I do recommend them, but with the asterisk that they may not be exactly what you’d expect from an english muffin.
Also, apologies for weird/subpar pics. Rush job on picture taking and it was hard to take pictures with the plastic bag and such.
