The Autumn Greeting apple is one of those apples where after pondering the flavors and essence of it did I understand why it is called what it is. ‘Autumn Greeting’ is an ingenious name for this apple.
The notesĀ of tart-sweetness that creep up are like a callback to a variety of ‘fall’ apples. It is not a special flavor by any means, but a tame version to the palette of autumn apples. Like an introduction. A ‘greeting.’
Consistency, or texture wise, is where I found the most fault with the Autumn Greeting apple. It has the aspects of fall apples which can be unappealing: tough flesh. Biting into it and tearing off a chunk was difficult. It was juicy, however, which made it seem mushy. It was slightly unpleasant.
The Autumn Greeting apple performs and is exactly what it is supposed to be, I think: a reference to the dozens of fall-style apples. Its flavor and texture are homages to theĀ fall-apple style, but as an individual it is not exceedingly exceptional.
