This flavor of this BellaVitano cheese line is Citrus Cinger. An intriguing combination, to be sure. It is not a combo that I expected or would guess that could work well in a cheese. So I had to try the BellaVitano Citrus Ginger. I’m glad I did.
The BellaVitano Citrus Ginger has a vaguely ‘meaty’ combination of texture and flavor. It tastes savory and full–it is definitely strong bodied. The ginger is what causes this and the minor notes of citrus cuts it slightly to round it out. The texture of it is about the same as any other BellaVitano cheese–on the dryer, firmer side and crumbles slightly at cutting. It is a cheese that is slightly difficult to pair with as it is such a complete experience in of itself. It is already balanced. However, I found that nectarines or a very sweet and moist fruit complimented its dryer, heartier flavor.
So, overall, the BellaVitano Citrus Ginger is not at all what I expected, but that does not matter. I enjoyed its unique composition and flavor profile.
