Cripps Pink apples are also named Pink Lady Apples, depending on the ‘quality’. I am not quite sure on the standards that are used to make this distinction, so I go into the Cripps Pink with an open mind for comparing the two apples.
Since the Cripps Pink is essentially the Pink Lady, the two different ‘kinds’ look the same. Pink flush. Some yellower spots. The white flesh of the Cripps Pink is delightfully crunchy and crisp. The sound was excellent.
The taste is unsurprisingly similar, with its mixture of sweet-tartness. But the difference is hat the Cripps Pink is noticeably ‘weaker.’ The flavor is neither pronounced, nor does it fill your mouth. It just lingers, gently. It is still tasty, however.
Regardless of its connection to the Pink Lady and naming standards, the Cripps Pink has the potential to be an above-average apple.
Update 11/2019: Orange Pippin contains more detailed information on the Cripps Pink/Pink Lady distinction. Rowan Jacobsen also went into it in Apples of Uncommon Character.
