I’m not a big fan of creamy cheeses, but I gave the Delice de Bourgogne a try. To expand my horizons and so on. I will admit, my expectations were very low going it, but those expectations were promptly blown away.
The Delice de Bourgogne’s had a creamy sweetness that was very surprising. Surprising and delicious. Other cheeses would be content to have a creamy milkiness to them, but the Delice de Bourgogne has a compelling after-note of sweetness that adds another dimension to it. It really rounds out the squishy and vaguely gelatinous cheese. The texture, as you can see in the below image, is very gooey. There really is no two ways about it. It is messy and spreads sort of easily. The stickiness is problematic, but once it gets on something it stays pretty well.
As for pairing with this cheese, I had with it a Braeburn apple and fig spread. The fig spread I mixed in with it and it tasted great. The savory-sweet meshed excellently with the creamy-sweetness of the Delice de Bourgogne. Good combination that I recommend. The apple and it didn’t work as well. The textural differences really threw me off.
I would try the Delice de Bourgogne again, with other jams and jelly. It has much potential for pairing and it is tasty to eat. A creamy cheese that I really liked and would recommend.
