I think this is the first Gardein product I’ve had. Or that I’m aware of, anyway. This is a plant-based jerky product that is more akin to real meat jerky than to the Louisville Vegan Jerky Co. products. It comes in the form of flat strips and chunks.
Texturally, the Gardein jerky is sort of sinewy, dry, tough…and chewy. It has a general savory, meaty flavor that isn’t that strong and is quite forgettable. It really wins me over with the texture. I remember some jerky being like tough yet soft strips and…this is it.
Although, I really do recommend this vegan jerky as I did enjoy it, I probably wouldn’t get it again as opposed to trying another Louisville Co. jerky due to the lesser flavor. I’ll remember it for the texture, though, and probably use it as benchmark for what vegan jerky could be like.
