This Gindo’s hot sauce is a brilliant red hue. Looking at its contents and what it says it’ll taste like (“deliciously sweet and spicy”)—I knew this would be a winner. Spicy and sweet? Nothing fancy or crazy going on? It had all the makings of a strong, versatile hot sauce. Something that can go with pretty much anything and tastes great.
And it is all of that. Gindo’s Ancient Pepper hot sauce performs exactly as advertised. Well. Not quite, actually. It calls itself Medium Heat—I would say it is more spicy than medium heat. I’m not sure how Gindo’s classify their hot sauce heats, but this feels like it should be considered spicy. It really has a strong kick—the sweetness comes through, though. I had it with pasta primarily plus tofu and it worked really well. It tasted really spicy-sweet with the pasta. Regardless, it has a great flavor, but definitely is spicy!
So I absolutely recommend it for those wanting a straight forward spicy yet somewhat sweet hot sauce.
