The Gold Nugget Mandarins is puffy to the touch as air is trapped between the skin and the segments inside. I would say the edible portion of it is at least 70% of its volume.
The Mandarins themselves, which are incased by the rippled peel, are quite squishy: delicate. The film containing the inner flesh and juice is quick to break but slightly sticky to chew. There is neither copious amounts of juice within the Mandarins nor flavor. What flavor the Gold Nugget Mandarins does have is light and barely citrusy. A tame sweetness that is not overbearing. Mildly pleasant.
It was not at all what I expected, but not in a bad way. The Gold Nugget Mandarins was simply okay; completely forgettable asides from the texture of its peel.
