These Haralson apples were fresh from the tree. I got them at an apple orchard. Each one looked a little different. Some were light green and others were a rich velvet red. They were very beautiful.
But that is just aesthetics. What about their taste? Well, Haralson apples are known for being baking apples, and as such they were quite tart. Not the same type of tart as a Granny Smith, but more like a extreme version of the Cortland, minus the ‘fall sweet’ vibe. It was nothing that special to taste. Good, but not that earth shattering.
The texture of the Haralson apple was above-average. It was crisp and crunchy. Juice freely flowed from its white flesh. The juice was on the more watery side of the thickness spectrum. Easy to clean up: not sticky.
So, overall, the Haralson is a good apple. Probably better for strictly baking, but if you like tart apples for raw eating, check out the Haralson apple.
