Hojicha tea does not look like a typical green tea. As in, it is not green and it is neither black nor whiteish. It’s brown. Why? Because it has been roasted!
And because of that roasting, it has a hearty, toasty flavor. It’s savory. It’s a strong bodied tea because of that toasty, sort of earthy, flavor. The potency of it means that it’s trickier to eat with at first. Until you get used to it. After that point, the toasted-grassy flavor becomes pretty good.
Hard tea to recommend since it’s such a strange one. If you can smell it before buying it, that’s how you’d know if you’d want to drink it. If a toasty, smoked flavor is something that intrigues you, then the Hojicha tea might be for you!
