The Opal apple is definitely crunchy. The skin broke off perfectly, and the flesh had just enough juice to be succulent but not so much as to be watery. The taste is where it gets interesting: it has sweet notes in the beginning, but it transforms into a sort of spicy tang. Neither of these flavors are particularly pronounced, but the spicy flavor lasts along while. I do not mean spicy as in a heat, but as a more rich edge to it. It has some sort of herbal essence to it. The more I ate the less I liked of it: it became overpowering.
