The Prairie Fruits Farms Moonglo is a goat’s milk cheese with a gruyere-like smell and flavor. It has that more….foul-ish smell to it that brie and gruyere have to them. The Moonglo is smelly is what I am saying. Which is an interesting quality for a goat cheese to have.

The Prairie Fruits Farms Moonglo is the first goat cheese I have had with this combination of smell and flavor. It has the smelly odor and the raw, pungent flavor. It is like a lighter gruyere with less punch to it, making it more palatable for people who are not fans of that flavor profile. Because of its gentle pungency, the Moonglo pairs well with sweet, crispy apples like the Kanzi Apple.

On its own, I found it wanting of something to cut its flavor and compliment it. Not that it does not stand alone, but being had with a piece of fruit really brings the Moonglo to another flavor level. This cheese has definitely changed my perspective on goat cheeses. Not all goat cheeses have to be dainty, soft, and creamy. The Moonglo brings goat’s grace to the world of the pungent.
