The Rave Apple is a new variety from the University of Minnesota that is grown/marketed by Stemlit (which is on the sticker!). It’s another child of the Honeycrisp apple. I almost need to tag my apple reviews based on if the apple is related to the Honeycrisp…anyway, I digress.
Okay, I don’t digress because the Rave Apple is reminiscent to the Honeycrisp. It’s crispy and juicy…but not crispy in the way the Honeycrisp can be. The Rave Apple definitely feels looser grained than its parent—also softer to touch. Still crispy, though. The flavor is not too intense. It has a mild punch and an airy tart-sweet flavor. I did get some bitterness with the ones I tried. Overall, very flavorful.
I won’t be raving per-say about the Rave Apple, but it’s a really good apple. I might prefer it to the Honeycrisp due to its less intense flavor/bite, but I might also want the Honeycrisp sometimes. Both are are good apples. So I recommend the Rave Apple.
