In this era, even apples have websites. The RubyFrost apple is another apple that has a marketing website dedicated to it. It really doesn’t mean much, all things considered. Everything has a marketing website nowadays—especially apples with cutesy names and pretty skin.
It really doesn’t mean that much when it comes to the quality of the apple itself. Why? Because marketing pomp is just that. You have to actually eat the thing to know its worth.
And I ate more than a few RubyFrost apples to know their worth. The most consistent aspect of the RubyFrost is the crispiness. It has a delightful snap and crunch to it. I didn’t eat a RubyFrost that wasn’t like that. It was so juicy too. I knew I could count on the RubyFrost for that.
The flavor I could not do the same for. The taste was all over the place for me. Some were subtle and almost bland while others had this amazing burst of tangy sweetness. Kind of SweeTango-esque but tarter. On average, I’d say the RubyFrost has a punchy flavor that generally skews towards the tart-sweetness side of the spectrum. The majority had strong, delicious flavor, but some were weak and I had to mention that.
All that taken into consideration, I do recommend the RubyFrost apple. They’re a nice addition to my daily apple rotation. They have a consistent juiciness and crunch that makes eating an apple an experience of its own. The flavor can be great too, but I don’t bet on that when picking one up. I go for the crunch and it delivers.
