Chick as in…Chicken Seitan. That’s the goal of this Upton’s Natural seitan product—to be like chicken. Without, you know, actually being chicken.
Due to a ridiculous sale at our grocery store, we got a ton of these Seitan packs to try it out in different formats. Because you aren’t going to eat this seitan as it is. Upton’s, I know, sells pre-seasoned or ‘prepared’ packs of their seitan, but this type is pretty plain. It is waiting for you to do whatever you want with it.
What we did, first, was have it with stir-fry. So fake chicken stir fry. No picture because I forgot to take one. It was tasty. Really didn’t notice it all that much amidst the veg. But texturally it was right!
The other thing we did with the packs was bread them and turn them into ‘chicken’ tenders. It’s been quite awhile since I ate regular meat, but they really seemed legit in texture. They turned out kinda dry, compared to real meat, I think, but that was fine. You can compensate by dumping mustard or ketchup on them…which you’d do anyway. Well, I would…hehe.
Anyway…so these two dishes made using the Upton’s Chick Seitan were very much successes. Fake-chicken tenders are the winners here, though. If you’re going to get this seitan, make some tenders. You won’t regret it.
And so, yes, I recommend the Upton’s Natural Chick Seitan for anyone looking for plain seitan to play with or make tenders with.
