My favorite types of pickles are either the sweet, bread and butter variety, or the spicier kinds. Whatever they are, they have to be crisp. A soft, squishy pickle is just not that appetizing to me.
So where does the Woodstock Bread and Butter Pickles fall in regards to my preferences and in the world of pickles?
Well, obviously, it’s a bread and butter pickle. The name tells you that. Its taste is on the sweeter side. There’s a vinegar-ish hit that comes towards the end that’s primarily found in the juice. Sweet and tart. I liked that part of it a lot. Actually tasted good mixed with egg yolks, but I’m an egg fanatic right now so take that with a grain of salt.
The place where these Woodstock Bread and Butter Pickles fall short is the texture. So floppy and soggy. If they were crisp….jeez, they would be almost perfect!
Alas, they were not. So the Woodstock Bread and Butter Pickles are not going to be on my go-to pickles list. If you like softer pickles and bread and butter ones, go for these. If you want ’em crisp, pass on these.
